According to DJI, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved 7 of their top-tier drone models being compliant with the latest Remote ID regulations. It’s a good news folks. Now almost all of the DJI drones are seen approved and it’s a big relief for everyone involved.
There is another big update on this that the DJI has received C1 Type Certificate for drones under the new European drone regulations and the FAA approval has come after that. As long as the European certification was pending they had not received FAA approval as well
FAA Remote ID Regulations
FAA ID is like a digital license plate that signals the local radio. It’s the identification of the aircraft with its current location to inform the authorities through its radio signals. It makes the jobs very legit. These rules are also institutionalized so once a drone is reckon as compliant it is also shows the legitimize of the aircraft at the same time.
The remote ID compliance deadline is declared for the new aircraft to be registered to legitimize them for the approval by the FAA. This year the date fell to this month and DJI successfully got the approval for newly manufactured drones. It has been also made clear that all those drone owners who own DJI drones are not required to do anything in particular because all those drones already out in the hands of the people do not necessarily require FAA Remote ID compliance until September 16, 2023. It’s a year time to that specific spell of time.
The DJI is going to release the firmware upgrade so that every DJI drone comes under the compliance before that date in September, 2023. Not to mention some older DJI drones would definitely require an add-on for that to work. So just adding a new add-on could easily make them comply to the FAA remote ID.
Here is the list of 7 DJI Drones which are officially FAA compliants for Remote ID. They follow all the rules put by the authority and have all the legitimacy and facilitation that is provided in return.
- DJI Mini 3 Pro
- DJI Avata
- DJI Air 2S
- DJI Mavic 3
- DJI Mavic 3 Cine
- DJI Matrice 30 (M30)
- DJI Matrice 30 Thermal (M30T)
All those DJI drone versions in the making would bear “ASTM F3411-22a-RID-B” on them to confirm their compliance with Remote ID rules without any further action needed. Of course DJI would release them with that tag. On the customers part nothing is required to be done of any type. It’s all related to the manufacturers and the authorities at this time. Once DJI releases the firmware update the operators would be able to upgrade their aircafts accordingly by updating the firmware. Until it all gets done everything is just fine.
One things is noticeable that you would also find on FAA’s official website that DJI getting many latest drones approved so that there should be no hurdles at the time of their release when they hit the stores globally.
There is another big update on this that the DJI has received C1 Type Certificate for drones under the new European drone regulations and the FAA approval has come after that. As long as the European certification was pending they had not received FAA approval as well. The C1 certificate gives drone enthusiasts freedom to fly Mavic 3 Series of DJI drones in the previously restricted European territories.
